Sanand : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said India is steadily building a complete electronics value chain—from finished products and electronic components to semiconductors—describing it as a key pillar of the country’s journey towards becoming a developed nation under the Viksit Bharat vision.
Addressing the inauguration of the CG Semi Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Sanand, the Prime Minister said the country’s semiconductor sector represents the next phase of India’s electronics revolution, which has gained significant momentum over the past decade.
“The expansion of the semiconductor industry in India did not happen overnight. It is the next step in the electronics revolution that has taken place in India over the past decade,” Modi said.
During the event, the Prime Minister was presented with the first semiconductor chips manufactured at the facility, which are set to be exported to Japan, marking a significant milestone for India’s growing semiconductor manufacturing capabilities.
Highlighting the country’s progress, Modi said India has moved from manufacturing electronic products to producing components and is now advancing into semiconductor production. “First products, then components and now semiconductors. India is building the entire electronics value chain. This is the roadmap to Viksit Bharat. This is the next phase of Make in India,” he stated.
The Prime Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to establishing a comprehensive semiconductor ecosystem in the country, encompassing chip design, fabrication, assembly, testing, and packaging.
He also noted that the Semicon India programme is progressing rapidly and laying a strong foundation for the nation’s technological future.
“The Semicon India programme is gathering rapid momentum—step by step, brick by brick, chip by chip,” Modi said.
Expressing confidence in India’s young talent, the Prime Minister said the country’s youth will play a leading role in shaping emerging technologies. “India’s youth will power the AI, robotics and next-generation technology revolution with Made in India chips,” he added.
The inauguration of the CG Semi OSAT facility is expected to strengthen India’s semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem, enhance domestic production capabilities, and boost the country’s position in the global electronics supply chain.
