Uttarakhand – Rishikesh: At least five people were injured after two buses collided head-on near the Kali Temple on the Rishikesh-Dehradun road on Tuesday morning, with a car also getting caught in the impact of the crash.
The collision caused extensive damage to both buses and the car, triggering panic and chaos at the accident site.
According to police officials, three occupants travelling in the car sustained injuries, along with two passengers travelling in one of the buses. The injured car passengers were admitted to the Himalayan Hospital near Jolly Grant Airport, while the two bus passengers were shifted to the Government Hospital in Rishikesh for treatment.
Doctors later confirmed that all the injured were out of danger.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the accident may have occurred while one of the vehicles was attempting to overtake on the busy route.
Police said the incident took place around 8.30 am near the Kali Temple stretch on the Rishikesh-Dehradun highway. Upon receiving information about the collision, teams from the Rishikesh Kotwali police station rushed to the spot and began rescue operations.
Officials said one of the buses was travelling from Dehradun, while the other was carrying Char Dham Yatra pilgrims from Morena district in Madhya Pradesh.
A car travelling along the same route was also caught in the collision, suffering severe damage.
Eyewitnesses said local residents and passersby immediately stepped in to help rescue passengers trapped inside the damaged vehicles before emergency services arrived.
“With the help of local people, all occupants were safely evacuated from the buses and the car,” a police official said.
Ambulances were rushed to the scene and the injured were taken to nearby hospitals for medical attention.
The accident led to temporary disruption of traffic on the Rishikesh-Dehradun route as police and rescue teams cleared the damaged vehicles from the road.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are working to identify all those injured in the crash. Authorities are also examining whether rash driving or negligent overtaking led to the collision.
