PM Modi Discusses West Asia Security Situation with Kuwait Amir

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday held a telephone conversation with the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah, to discuss the evolving security situation in West Asia amid rising regional tensions.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the two leaders exchanged views on recent developments in the region and emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability.

During the conversation, Prime Minister Modi expressed deep concern over the escalation of tensions in West Asia and reiterated India’s strong condemnation of any attacks on Kuwait’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He underscored the need for immediate de-escalation and stressed that dialogue and diplomacy remain the most effective means to restore peace in the region.

The Prime Minister also thanked the Amir of Kuwait for his personal attention toward the welfare and safety of the large Indian expatriate community residing in the Gulf nation. India and Kuwait share close bilateral ties, with a significant number of Indian nationals contributing to Kuwait’s economy and development.

The high-level conversation comes at a time of heightened geopolitical uncertainty in the region. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has reiterated that the naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz will remain in force until a comprehensive agreement is reached with Tehran.

Speaking to reporters, Trump expressed optimism that ongoing negotiations could soon lead to a breakthrough. He stated that a potential agreement aimed at preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons could be finalized within days, adding that the Strait of Hormuz would reopen immediately after the signing of such a deal.

The US President also reaffirmed his administration’s policy of maintaining maximum economic pressure on Iran, emphasizing that restrictions on oil transit through the strategically important waterway would remain in place until a final agreement is secured.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical maritime trade routes, carrying a significant portion of global oil shipments. Any disruption in the region has far-reaching implications for international energy markets and global economic stability.

India has consistently advocated for peaceful resolution of conflicts in West Asia, given its strategic interests in the region, energy security concerns, and the presence of millions of Indian nationals living and working across Gulf countries.

Diplomatic observers note that Prime Minister Modi’s conversation with the Kuwait Amir reflects India’s continued engagement with regional partners as efforts intensify to prevent further escalation and promote stability in West Asia.
