New Delhi: The Eastern Railway has introduced a new citizen-driven initiative aimed at improving cleanliness across railway stations through real-time reporting and rapid response action.
Under the campaign titled “Spot It, Report It, We’re On It”, passengers who notice unclean areas within station premises can take a clear photograph and immediately share it with the railway administration. Reports can be posted on the official X (formerly Twitter) handles of the respective divisions—Sealdah, Howrah, Malda, and Asansol—using the hashtag #ERChallenge.
Complaints can also be submitted through official Facebook pages or the RailMadad grievance platform. Once a report is received, it is automatically routed to the concerned maintenance team, triggering an immediate cleanup response.
Railway officials said the system is designed to ensure that action is taken within 30 minutes of receiving a complaint, making cleanliness a time-bound operational priority rather than a routine task.
Describing the initiative, Eastern Railway General Manager Milind Deouskar said the objective is to make cleanliness a “real-time reality” at stations, which serve as daily transit hubs for millions of passengers.
He added that the railway is combining technology, workforce efficiency, and passenger participation to ensure stations remain clean, comfortable, and welcoming.
“Backed by 24×7 vigilance and a rapid-response system, the mission seeks to demonstrate that maintaining spotless station premises is not an impossible aspiration but an achievable reality,” Deouskar said.
Chief Public Relations Officer Shibram Majhi said the initiative places strong emphasis on public involvement, noting that sustained cleanliness can only be achieved with active participation from passengers.
Officials also reminded that under railway regulations, individuals found littering or spitting in station premises may be fined up to ₹500.
The initiative reflects the railway’s broader push to integrate technology and citizen engagement into day-to-day operations, turning passenger feedback into immediate on-ground action.
