US President Donald Trump said on Friday that he is preparing to take a final decision on a proposed agreement with Iran that could reshape the security and energy landscape of the Gulf region, outlining sweeping conditions that include a permanent ban on Iran acquiring nuclear weapons and the reopening of the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
In a series of social media posts, Trump said Iran must accept a strict and permanent commitment that it will never develop or possess nuclear weapons.
“Iran must agree that they will never have a Nuclear Weapon or Bomb,” he wrote.
The President also said the Strait of Hormuz—a critical maritime chokepoint through which a significant share of global oil and liquefied natural gas flows—must be reopened immediately for unrestricted shipping in both directions, without tolls or restrictions.
“The Hormuz Strait must be immediately open, no tolls, for unrestricted shipping traffic, in both directions,” Trump said, adding that naval operations in the area would be adjusted as part of the emerging arrangement.
Trump claimed that mines placed in the waterway were already being cleared and suggested that US forces had played a role in removing explosive devices disrupting navigation.
“Ships caught in the Strait due to our amazing and unprecedented Naval Blockade, which will now be lifted, may start the process of ‘heading home,’” he wrote.
He further claimed that remaining underwater mines would be removed or destroyed, saying Iran would complete clearance operations in coordination with US forces.
Nuclear programme at the centre of talks
Trump also addressed Iran’s nuclear programme, stating that enriched nuclear material allegedly buried underground following earlier US strikes would be recovered and destroyed under international supervision.
According to his statement, the process would be conducted “in close coordination and conjunction with the Islamic Republic of Iran, plus the International Atomic Energy Agency.”
He added that no financial transfers would be made as part of the arrangement, and that only limited secondary issues had been agreed upon so far.
“No money will be exchanged, until further notice,” he wrote.
However, Trump did not provide formal documentation of the agreement or confirm whether Iranian authorities had accepted the terms he described. He said he would be meeting at the White House Situation Room to make a “final determination.”
Negotiations still unconfirmed by Iran
While US officials have indicated that a draft framework for extending a ceasefire and reopening maritime traffic is under discussion, Iranian officials have not confirmed that a final agreement has been reached.
Tehran has previously insisted that any arrangement must include relief from sanctions and guarantees regarding its sovereign control over strategic waterways.

Any agreement involving the Strait of Hormuz would have immediate implications for global energy markets. The waterway is one of the world’s most important oil transit routes, and disruptions in recent months have already contributed to volatility in shipping costs and energy prices.
