India – Hyderabad: Chennai Super Kings have strengthened their squad by signing South African all-rounder Dian Forrester as an injury replacement for England cricketer Jamie Overton, who has been ruled out of the remainder of the season due to a right thigh injury.
According to an official statement from the Indian Premier League (Indian Premier League), Forrester has been roped in for INR 75 lakh and will join the franchise immediately.
“Chennai Super Kings have picked a player replacement for Jamie Overton, who has been ruled out of the remainder of the season due to a right thigh injury. Dian Forrester will join CSK for INR 75 lakh as a replacement for Overton,” the IPL statement read.
CSK confirmed on Wednesday that Overton had returned to his home country for “further assessment and management” after picking up the injury ahead of their clash against the Lucknow Super Giants.
Overton had been a key contributor for CSK this season, taking 14 wickets from 10 matches at an average of 17.78 and an economy rate of 8.89. He also made valuable contributions with the bat, scoring 136 runs at a strike rate of 158.13. His final appearance came against LSG at Chepauk on May 11, where he registered figures of 3 for 36.
Forrester arrives at CSK after recently making his international debut for South Africa against New Zealand in March 2026. The 24-year-old has featured in five international matches so far, scoring 83 runs in total.
The signing comes at a crucial stage for CSK, who have been battling an injury-hit campaign. Earlier on Wednesday, they brought in Macneil Noronha as a replacement for injured pacer Ramakrishna Ghosh.
CSK have already been without Australian fast bowler Nathan Ellis, who was ruled out before the season due to a hamstring injury. Left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed also exited the tournament with a quadricep injury, while a hamstring issue ended the campaign of young batter Ayush Mhatre.
Despite their setbacks, CSK remain in playoff contention. They currently sit fifth on the points table with 12 points from 11 matches and still have a realistic chance of breaking into the top four, depending on upcoming results.
