Over 400 Arrested in France After Violent PSG Champions League Celebrations

Paris : Celebrations following Paris Saint-Germain’s UEFA Champions League triumph over Arsenal descended into violence across France, leading to the arrest of more than 400 people and leaving several police officers injured, according to French authorities.

Thousands of PSG supporters poured onto the streets of Paris and other major cities after the club secured a dramatic victory over Arsenal in the Champions League final. While many fans celebrated peacefully, clashes broke out in several locations as groups of supporters confronted police, set off fireworks, damaged property, and disrupted public transport services.

The French Interior Ministry reported that 416 people were detained nationwide, including more than 280 in the Paris region. Authorities said seven police officers were injured during the unrest.

Violence was reported around the Champs-Élysées, Parc des Princes stadium, and other public gathering areas, where large crowds had assembled to watch the match. Riot police were deployed to control the situation, using tear gas and crowd-control measures to disperse aggressive groups.

Officials condemned the violence, describing the incidents as unacceptable and stressing that the majority of supporters celebrated responsibly. Thousands of security personnel had been deployed across the country in anticipation of large-scale celebrations.

Despite the disturbances, French authorities said planned victory events for PSG would continue under heightened security arrangements. Investigations into the violence and property damage are ongoing.

The incidents have once again raised concerns about crowd control and public safety during major sporting celebrations in France.
